military view on climate change

A military perspective on climate change

In the United States there is a political divide which is holding the climate change issue and plans to fix it back, but the military might be the thing to bridge the gap. It talks about how some republicans don't believe in climate change at all and how most science-minded democrats do. This is why we have not been able to make a plan or solution to help fix the problem. It is hard to get an agreement on the reasons for climate change. The military does not care about the reasons, they are bringing up the solutions. Some problems they see are that it is stirring up conflicts internationally, putting costal bases in danger, taxing soldiers and equipment. This could cause problems for military readiness. The changing weather patterns are causing drought, famine, and resource competitions. That leads to violent conflicts. Some of the hurricanes we have dealt with have caused over $10 mil on military bases in the US. Rising sea levels could threaten naval bases. Melting in Alaska could make some of the buildings collapse. The military expects that these kinds of impacts are going to get worse and increase further over time. Because they recognize this danger they are taking some steps. Military planning for climate change does not care about habitats and species being threatened, they worry about government collapse, armed fighting, and more in places that are already suffering. The military approach might be the bridge between believers and doubters. There are people who are more concerned about saving species and habitats, but there are also people worried about the economic harm. The military’s stance on this issue is even making some republicans listen and agree with.
