Hey, Check This Out!

Cloud seeding is when planes drop salt into clouds in order to try and stop the rainfall that is causing floods and landslides. Cloud seeding is not only used in desperate situations like the one now, but it is also used to extinguish forest fires. Jakarta, Indonesia, has been hit with devastating climate change that has caused over 40 deaths and misplaced thousands of people. Jakata has over 30 million people living within the city. The reason they are putting salt in the clouds is as an attempt to make the clouds rain before they reach Jakarta. A chief in Indonesia's air force, Hammam Riza, said "We will do cloud seeding every day as needed". Just in 2020 alone, floods have wracked Jakarta and landslides have destroyed homes. The Meterological, Climatological, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that the floods have been one of the most extreme rainfall events since 1866. BMKG also brought up that the increased risk of extreme weather has been caused by climate change and that people should be warned about the harsh weather that lasted until February. There was footage on TV showing 'mud covered cars, some piled on top of each other' (Reuters). The cloud seeding should help in the crisis and be able to save as many people as possible from the extreme weather.
