Hey, Check This Out!!!

A Snapshot of inequality

This week I read "This chart ranks everyone (even you) by their wealth, and it’s a snapshot of inequality."  All around the world there is income inequality happening but is a major problem in the United States at the moment and everyone knows it. Bloomberg Businessweek published a chart that ranked every individual anywhere from -2 to 11 these numbers showed income from the poorest such as farmers to the richest people in the United States such as Jeff Bazons and Bill Gates. Those ranked as an 11 on the chart have $100 billion or more. The number below is 10 where only 150 people rank, this group includes people with $10 billion or more such as Elon Musk.

Each category also shows what those within it can afford. Those with a score of 10 or 11 can afford a sports team whereas Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, those ranking at an 11, can afford space travel.

It is incredible to be able to look at wealth in this way and view how it is distributed throughout the States. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the politician serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district, ranks a 5. 5 means a person is making about $100,000 and the thing they can afford to purchase is nothing more than their mortgage. There are 436 million people in the United States ranking a 5 on this scale.

Those ranking anywhere from a 2 to a -2 have anywhere from $100 to $.01 as the bottom of their bracket and can hardly afford anything. This category includes the poorest in the country and those with a negative net worth (sometimes celebrities will rank here on a bad day).

The economy has continued to reward those on top which allows for us to have such great financial inequality throughout the entire country.

This kind of inequality through wealth is unsustainable and we need to work together to fix our financial problems as a country and to care for those ranking lower.
