The Impeachment Trial of President Donald John Trump

The impeachment trial of Donald Trump is drawing to a close. The Democrats' prosecution and the Republicans' defense have been clashing for weeks, and the Senate will decide whether or not to convict Trump on Wednesday. Nevertheless, it is very unlikely the President will actually end-up being removed from office, even though that is the penality for his conviction. Nevertheless, the trial has been controversial and tumultuous for all of those involved, especially Trump himself, who has not exactly made subtle his disapproval of the Democrats and their prosecution. Additional controversies have manifested themselves in the refusal to allow witnesses to speak at the trial. There are also, of course, disagreements between the Democrats and the Republicans regarding the appropriateness of Trump's actions; while the general consensus is that his actions are in fact inappropriate, many Republicans believe that it should ultimately be up to the voters rather than the Senate to decide Trump's fate regarding the upcoming 2020 election. To me, Trump's actions are clearly inappropriate, and thus he should be held accountable. Nevertheless, he will almost certainly be acquitted due to the Republican party's current dominance in the government.
