Impeachment Blog

The current impeachment trial against president Trump stems initially stems from him attempting to withhold foreign aid from the Ukraine unless they secretly investigated Joe Biden's son. This is obviously illegal and a clear abuse of executive power on the part of president Trump. The impeachment has currently gotten past the inquiry stage, and the house of representatives have voted to send it to the senate for a trial. Currently, a large number of republicans have publicly stated that they will vote to acquit Trump, and they have also recently voted to block testimony from new witnesses.
If trump were to be impeached, this would also mean that he wouldn't be able to run for re-election later this year. With Trump being the only major candidate that the republican party has at the moment, it would be a devastating blow if he was impeached. The impeachment trial, which is supposed to continue this week, will likely overshadow the Iowa Democratic Caucasus. Several of the candidates such as Warren and Sanders will have to go to Washington to attend the impeachment trial. The trial may also lead to democrats being distracted because of it, and as such there may be a lower voter turnout. This is coupled with the fact that the democratic party is fractured with 9 candidates, and things do not look like they will turn out well. In my opinion Trump should definitely be impeached because of what he did, but he will likely be acquitted because of the Republicans refusal to accept evidence and testimony.
