Impeachment Blog

The article I read was from the Wall Street Journal, and it was about how the Democratic party was going to continue to try and remove Trump from office in the closing arguments of the impeachment trial on Monday. On Friday, the Senate voted 51 to 49 to reject Democrats' request for more witnesses in the impeachment trial, which ended the effort, even though the closing arguments are happening on Monday.  Something important the article mentioned was that this is happening right before the Iowa caucuses, the acquittal of Trump, and several other important political happenings.

As far as viewpoints in this article, I feel as though a variety was represented through things like polls and interviews. For example,  the article included interviews from both a laborer who said quote "I just want Trump out", as well as a Trump supporter. The article also included a poll that showed that the majority of voters agreed that Trump abused his political power by asking Ukraine to investigate an opponent and that he obstructed Congress by not cooperating with impeachment inquiry. A different poll showed another viewpoint by gathering that 49% of participants thought that Trump should finish his term, while 46% thought he should be removed from office. The article also represented the viewpoints of both a democratic representative and Trump's lawyer.

To be honest, I don't really know that much about the whole impeachment trial. Based on one of the polls in the article I read, I feel like Trump might not be removed from office. Concerning my thoughts, I don't really know what to think, which means I'm more on the neutral side of things. I do think that what Trump did is definitely cheating, and I think that removing him from office might be a good idea. If that doesn't happen, which I'm not really sure if it will or not, I don't think he should be allowed to run again. In general, my stance is that we need to do what's best for the country overall, whatever that ends up being.
