Technology and the Work Force in the Future
This graph shows the potential job growth from 2017-2030 in various occupational fields, and you can
see that the jobs that are decreasing, are the ones that are slowly being taken over by technology.
Production work for example, that can very easily be done with machinery now, which leaves less room
for people who need jobs. Creatives and arts management on the other hand, there is not very much
technology that can demonstrate creativity and create art for us, so those jobs have the potential to
steadily increase.

This graph shows a similar issue, showing which occupational fields will be losing jobs by 2030. It is a
similar theory, showing that the job opportunities decreasing the most have to do with professions that
can be overtaken by technology. It is also important to take note that the jobs most easily taken over by
technology are also the jobs that have the most workers with the least education. Production workers for
example, consist of over 90% of employees without college degrees. While health professionals, have
less than 30% of employees lacking a college degree.

This graph shows how jobs gained after the Great Recession were heavily in urban areas, meaning
places in which there are more higher paying jobs, which generally means a higher concentration of
people with higher education. This also correlates back to the other two graphs, showing that these jobs
are not yet capable of being taken over by automation and technology, which also means they are open
to increasing.
When thinking about my work in the future, I am honestly quite concerned with what there will be to offer. If I want to be a physician, there is so much that can easily be done through technology, requiring less work for a doctor, and a PA can do over 50% of what a doctor can, with much less schooling, which is why there has been an increase in PAs in recent years. However if I choose to be an entrepreneur or something else in the world of business, that involves much more creativity and innovation, which is much harder for a machine to do better than a human. Overall there are many jobs still available, but it is undeniable that technology is becoming more and more of a threat to the workforce each year, and that does concern me.
