Interdependence

ICJ:
After India removed special status for Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has been pursuing international support. Specifically, it has leveled accusations of human rights abuses by India. Unfortunately, Pakistan lacks concrete charges. Its own lawyer has stated that charge would be difficult to level, and India has historically deflected charges. The only ground the case stands on, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, is not under ICJ jurisdiction.

EU:
Brexit has been, in three words, an absolute mess. Ignoring the political issues in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland do not wish to leave the EU at all. Because of this, England has had a compromise, leaving Northern Ireland in a special relationship with the EU. This compromise states that NI will remain in the EU single market, but not many other programs. This compromise is currently seen favorably by NI's government.

Russian Threat:
Following a Russian military exercise to practice seizing the Åland Islands, Finland has been taking its military much more seriously. The fate of Crimea has made Russia's neighbors wary, but this potential direct threat to Finnish sovereignty has left them seeking allies. Finland and Sweden have entered into an agreement, distinct from an alliance, to assist each other militarily in the event of Russian aggression. Finland is not inexperienced in war with Russia, any conflict would likely be suicidal. This help from Sweden could be instrumental in allowing Finland to remain undefeated long enough to draw international support.

NATO:
Recently, NATO has begun training exercises in Latvia. This is likely to deter Russia's imperialist desires that it tries to pretend don't exist. Russia has historically held dominion over the Baltic States, and their establishment in NATO has served as a strong deterrent. Each country individually is small and weak, but NATO is perhaps the current greatest military force in the world. This training exercise is likely designed to keep that fact in Russia's head.
