Hong Kong Crisis

        Hong Kong was a British colony up until 1997 when the United Kingdom gave the region to China with a treaty. This treaty agreed to let Hong Kong remain semiautonomous which basically means they would technically be apart of China but they will not use their form of government and will have separate markets and courts. These protests groups called the "umbrellas" are happening because there is a extradition bill that allows mainland China to ignore Hong Kong's legal system and punish public dissidents. This bill was suspended in June but the people in Hong Kong are still protesting because they want the bill to be formally withdrawn and they want to have expanded voting rights. Mainland China is very upset about this they are calling the Hong Kong Crisis an "internal affair". 
       #FightForHongKong! I honestly can't believe China is calling this giant protest a "Internal Affair". I understand why they want other states to "stay out of it" but for how long? When are they going to realize that Hong Kong citizens are not going to give up. Even if you call it "Criminal" or "Evil" they are not going to give up! But I guess China is the same way... China is even going as far as trying to hire an internal politician to replace the Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam who's term ends in 2022. I wonder if China see's the wrong in their law. They are literally trying to go over there treaty. Couldn't the UK step in because China is going over their treaty? I don't really understand why China wants to control Hong Kong? Is it because Xi Jinping has this big ego and he has this need to control everyone and everything? Or is this purely economically?

SARS CoV-2, COVID-19, and The World

It's no secret that right now the SARS CoV-2 is wreaking havoc across the world. As of today, the United States has surpassed China as the nation with the most cases of the novel coronavirus, with over 86,000 cases in our country to date. This is all pretty crazy, especially considering that this is all because of a pathogen that supposedly started with either bats or pangolins (the only mammal in the world known to have scales) in a small localized region of China. Of course, it's not only the health effects that are wide-reaching; the social effects are also just as prevalent. One of the ways in which the world is rapidly changing in regards to social effects is through panic buying of goods at places such as supermarkets and hypermarkets such as Walmart. COVID-19 Blog

As the spread of COVID-19 becomes greater many opinions on how to respond to this global pandemic have surfaced. Just a few months ago much of the population in the United States felt unthreatened by the virus as it spread through China, being concentrated in Wuhan, and later spreading in Europe. It was not until the virus quickly erupted in the United States that we each understood the true severity of this pandemic. Now we are seeing how individuals are being greatly impacted by this virus as we are all being asked to stay home and the everyday parts of our lives have been flipped upside down.
