10/1/19 class work
1. UN organization - UNESCO
UNESCO stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and is a part of the UN based in Paris. UNESCO aims for education across the world and pushes for human rights.
Currently, I read an article about UNESCO providing better training for teachers who care for traumatized children. This is becoming more essential in many countries with a high number of refugees or violence. Not only do the teachers learn how to teach, but they learn basic physiological therapy skills to help children in need. Teachers unfortunately are having to compensate for the lack of mental care most countries' healthcare systems give, especially with growing numbers of child anxiety and other mental health issues worldwide.
2. Any IGO - OPEC
OPEC stands for Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and is comprised of 14 nations who export the most oil. It helps with coordinating oil transports and providing aid.
Right now OPEC is having a lot of trouble as a result of the attacks on Saudi's oil fields. The oil outputs are the lowest they've ever been in 8 years, since 2011 during the Libyan civil war. Oil prices are up 20%.
3. Collective Security/Hybrid IGO - OAS
OAS stands for Organization of American States and deals with regional solidarity in the Americas.
Currently, the OAS is leaning more socialist in its members. This can cause disputes, especially with the topic of abortion and the United States, as it is a wisely controversial issue. The President of the OAS, Mr. Luis Leonardo Almagro Lemes, is also pushing for the legalization of some drugs and pro-choice abortion rights, especially in Latin-American countries which make up most of the OAS.
4. Treaties/Strategic Alliances - United States and Israel
The United States and Israel are two very different countries but also have many similarities. Israel, only the size of New Jersey, has a population of about 8.7 million but still is one of the leading technologic advanced countries in the world. Israel's iron dome technology, along with other inventions, are shared with the United States in exchange for protection and validation by the United States. Many US influences are in Israel including culture and language, and many Israeli inventions are in the United States, like Waze and laser projection keyboards.
This is a strategic alliance for both sides because the United States gets Israeli tech and the Israelis get US protection and resources.
