This article discusses the conclusive future of the impeachment trial in the senate. It aims to show that this impeachment trial was seemingly a test that failed. Former Republican congressman Mickey Edwards says, “I think he will just have been given a green light and he will claim not just acquittal but vindication and he can do those things and they can’t impeach him again. I think this is going to empower him to be much bolder. I would expect to see him even more let loose.”-Mickey Edwards. The article and its contributors' remark on that what follows this trial could possibly result in increased abuse of power. Speaker Newt Gingrich remarks on how this trial was built on dishonesty, and how it will be a remarkable moment in history. Senior administration official briefing reporters also predict that President Trump will use his State of the Union address as “the great American comeback” speech to show that he was successful and beat all the odds against him.
Personally, I knew this trial would not be successful from the start due to non-official evidence, which seemingly did not sufficiently meet the requirements needed to continue this impeachment. Besides withholding security aid to Ukraine (The only official event that had the ability to carry this impeachment trial), there really wasn’t anything that could be entirely detrimental to our current president’s job in office.
