Comey Op-Ed: US Democracy Won't 'Come Apart' If Trump Isn't Removed From Office
Source- The Hill
Former FBI Director James Comey claims if Trump isn't removed from office, democracy won't unravel, contrary to some claims from the left. He continued to argue this point saying people have been saying America has been going down for almost two centuries, but nothing has happened so far. He admits Americans are "people of poor character" but overall the country is still on top and doing better than ever.
In December, the house passed two articles concerning Trump and his dealings with Ukraine. Recently, a 51-49 house vote has voted not to bring in witnesses to the trial.
Comey has had issues with Trump since his dismissal in 2017. They have both insulted each other over various medias. Comey reported "Understandably, many Americans see darkness. Our President is a bad person and a liar."
So far, the House has impeached the President, and the Senate is voting soon. While not knowledgeable about the topic, I do not know what the results will be, and the effects. If Trump is impeached, what will this do to our country? Will Pence take over? With the 2020 elections coming quickly, I think Trump should not be allowed to be reelected, and face charges after his term is over, but I am not sure what could happen while he is still in the position of power he is in currently.
Many people do not know what being 'impeached' even means: A lot think the term is the same as 'being removed from office', but it is not. Impeached just means under investigation/trial, and can result in being removed from office, but doesn't always result in that.
I just hope in the 2020 elections we get a more reputable and respected President...
