Interdependence
The UN organization I chose is the United Nations Environment Program. Recently they have been putting out a lot of information on what they call “the cost of staying fashionable.” Apparently the fashion industry is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. In response to this major issue, which has drastically increased since 2000, UNEP created the UN Alliance for Sustainable Fashion, which they launched during an environment assembly in early 2019.
There has been news recently about the World Trade Organization, and what is going to happen if the UK goes through with Brexit. Right now they are under the EU tariffs and rules. They are trying to negotiate what their rules would be if they left, but as of now they have not reached a deal. If they leave the EU before a deal is reached, their tariffs will probably be much higher than under the EU.
The African Union is a hybrid IGO. In 2017, the African Union, European Union, and the United Nations set up the AU–EU–UN Tripartite Taskforce. It was created to deal with refugees in Libya. They had a meeting recently to further discuss humanitarian issues in Libya.
The Paris Climate Accord was a treaty created and agreed to by 195 countries in 2015. The US was one of these countries. It was big news in 2017 when President Trump withdrew the US from this agreement. It was highly speculated that many other countries would follow in their footsteps.
